autumn leaves
prose

i met a boy and a girl who both made me hope again.

this song feels like falling in love. i’m not sure how else to describe it. there’s so much tenderness in the lyrics, in how little they need to describe being close to someone.

sun kissed skin your hands in mine

1:10

the music feels like falling, like being carried through time, sometimes involuntarily. i want to stay inside the moment those words describe, but the song keeps moving. listening to it, i find myself wanting more than that one moment.

you’re like the seasons everchanging colourful

1:21

the hands are held together; the seasons are changing. i hear those images beside each other and think about getting to know someone over time. being close enough to notice them change. having to learn something about them again.

that’s why flowers feels like the right title to me. the same thing that makes them an image of love—their brief, particular beauty—makes time part of the image, too. i hear that in the song’s tenderness, and it makes me think about what i’m hoping for with these two people.

i want enough time to be surprised by someone. to find out who they’re becoming, and how we feel about each other as we change. that possibility makes me cry when i listen. i met them, and now i can imagine it again.

good days strung together long enough to watch the seasons change.
